Dan Dumitru Iacob graduated from the Faculty of History, "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University of Iași (1997). At the same faculty, he completed the advanced studies program "Romanians in international relations" (1998) and defended his Ph.D. thesis: The Elite of the Romanian Principalities in the Middle of the 19th Century. Lifestyle and Mentalities (2008). In 1999, he started working as a research fellow at the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities Sibiu. He published a volume as the single author (The Elites of the Romanian Principalities in the First Half of 19th Century - Sociability and Entertainment, Iași, 2015), edited seven volumes of the Historical Atlas of Romanian Towns and three volumes of collective studies (including: Property, Prestige, and Material Culture in Patrimonial Sources. Probate Inventories from the 16th – 19th Centuries, Iași, 2015; Studies of the History of Cities: In Honorem Paul Niedermaier, in collaboration with Vasile Ciobanu, Bucharest - Brăila, 2017), published 50 studies and scientific articles in collective volumes and specialized journals, as well as several popularization articles in Romanian cultural magazines and newspapers, reviews, book presentations, etc. He has participated, as a project director, member, or research fellow, in 11 national research projects and grants. He is the coordinator and editor of the series Historical Atlas of Romanian Towns, editor-in-chief of the Historia Urbana journal, member of the Scientific Council and Scientific Secretary of the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities Sibiu, chairman of the Commission for the History of Romanian Towns (since 2018), member of the International Commission for the History of Towns and member of the Atlas Working Group, chairman and founding member of the Civitas Nostra - Society for the Study of the History of Towns.
